We all form our unique internal mental maps (or models) of the world around us a result of the way we perceive and filter information absorbed through our five senses. NLP explores how we organise and integrate the following in order to create our individual reality:
The brain doesn't know the difference between reality and a well-perceived scenario, as you have probably found after awaking from a nightmare in a sweat with your heart pounding. It is the same in our waking life- our unconscious believes what it is told, especially if told often enough, and the emotions we attach to that story create our feelings and our 'reality'. NLP gives you tools for life by helping you to identify your goals and helping you to get there. It offers you alternative ways in which to view a situation in which you feel uncomfortable, feel you can’t resolve or are stressed by. By using these tools you can change your perception of a situation by recreating times in your life when your 5 senses were experiencing something great and then applying those feelings to a time when you had a 'bad experience'. This allows your perception of the traumatic experience to change to something much more comfortable and acceptable instead of stressful. Getting to where you want to be and reaching your goals may seem impossible or difficult as it may be like trying to navigate your way through a strange place without a map with little idea as to how to get to your destination. NLP can help you to examine the drives behind you wanting to get to that place, find alternative paths, or change your perceptions of the landscape making it a more navigable and friendly place.
